ABOUT ISA

The Indian Students Association at the University of Miami has built an exceptional presence on campus. As a leading, non-for-profit student organization with over 200 members, ISA is involved in hosting and organizing events that spread awareness of the rich and vibrant Indian culture. ISA members represent a myriad of ethnicities, religions, and interests, and UM ISA is one the largest and most active student groups on campus, putting on several events each year to celebrate and foster awareness of South Asia.

Each year, hundreds of students attend the annual Garba Night to learn the basic steps to traditional Raas and Garba. Over 1,000 students and members of the Miami community attended the Diwali show in fall 2010, which featured performances by talented students and dance teams including Hurricane Raas and Hurricane Bhangra. The Indian Students Association has increased its presence on campus by collaborating with other student organizations to hold cultural events and activities. In 2007, the South Asian Students Alliance, a nationwide conference with four days of workshops, high-profile speakers, programs, and a cultural show, selected UM’s ISA to organize and host the event. S.A.S.A. was a huge success and displayed that our ISA is truly capable of projecting its enthusiasm to students all over North America.

A group that is continuously growing and setting new goals, the Indian Students Association was honored with the 2006 Organization of the Year award. In addition, Miami Mayhem, an intercollegiate dance competition ran annually by ISA, was awarded the best organized event of 2011 at the Student Organization Achievement and Recognition ceremony.  Since its inception, UM ISA has grown with its scope. With activities and events ranging from cultural events to community service events to simple get togethers, ISA has expanded to reach out to students across UM's campus and beyond. There are many ways to get involved with the ISA community from becoming a chair to performing in shows. If there is something you would like to see UM ISA do, don't hesistate to provide your suggestions using the contact form found on the website. We greatly appreciate your interest in our organization and the Indian cultural initiatives at the University of Miami.

Sincerely,
ISA Executive Board
